HannekeTravels - USA - Minnesota

I've been to Minnesota in August 2004, on my way back from Alaska to the Netherlands. I stayed for a week, and visited my roommate and her family in Minnetonka (Minneapolis), and we also visited Duluth, on the shore of Lake Superior, where Kim went to university.

At night, Kim and I went to Minneapolis to take some night photos. There are big lakes in the city, which is really nice!

After that we wanted to drink tea in what we thought would be a quiet tearoom, but it turned out to be really hip, there was even a DJ playing... And the tea was strange, the flavors were unusual (I had kiwi tea..) and they put pearls in it. A sort of jelly pearls, you get an extra big straw for them. It was quite funny!

The twin cities are the most beautiful cities that I've seen in the USA so far! The buildings are nice and it seems so clean.. It reminds me of European cities a bit, because of the old buildings and bridges. Schulz is from St Paul so there are statues of Snoopy everywhere... I took some photos of the ones in front of the science museum in St Paul:

The science museum is very nice, I especially liked the part about the weather :) You could make warm and cold fronts there!

As a proper tourist, I had this photo taken...

Sunday August 22
On Sunday Kim and I left for Duluth, a town to the north on the shore of Lake Superior. It took 3 hours to drive there. We went to the harbour to watch the famous bridge. We saw it opening, but not all the way, it was just for a small ship.

Monday August 23
On Monday we had a nice breakfast in the harbor and then we crossed the bridge. On the other side is a small piece of land surrounded by water. We went to the beach there. It was quite windy! It looks just like the seashore, only the salty air is missing!

Tuesday August 24
In the center of Duluth there is a big park, it seems like you're in the middle of nature and not in a city. The creek didn't carry much water now, but Kim told me it will be much more in Spring and then you can even kayak on it!

Wednesday August 25
Wednesday was a very hot humid day! It was not even that warm, only about 20 degrees Celcius but because of the humidity it felt like a lot more. In the morning we went to the bridge again, and this time it opened all the way for a big ship leaving Duluth!

After watching the ship leave, we visited the Rose Garden. It was a nice park, but it was getting so hot that we didn't stay very long.

Thursday August 26
On Thursday we left right after waking up, we were going back to her parents. We drove to Wisconsin which is very close, just so that I could say that I have been in Wisconsin :) here's the proof:

Friday August 27
On Friday we woke up early. Kims mum made delicious banana muffins for us! We went to Mall Of America, the biggest mall in the USA. Within the mall there is a amusement park called "Camp Snoopy", with shops, roller coasters, etc. We looked around, and went into the swing and one of the roller coasters.

The mall was right next to the airport, very easy! I flew back straight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam that afternoon.
