Scotland

I visited Scotland in January 2003, and was lucky enough to have cold but very sunny weather that week! I visited Scotland again in late January 2006, and was lucky again :) The photos on these pages are all from the trip in 2003, I will add some photos taken in 2006 soon.

Glasgow
I didn't spend much time in Glasgow, the only photo I took is of the university building...

Dalmally

These photos are taken in Dalmally, the bus between Glasgow and Oban stops here. The fields were covered in rhime, and there were huge ice crystals everywhere. Very pretty!

Isle of Mull
These photos are taken along the Coladoir River near Kinlock Crossroads. I discovered a sort of ice roses, see the picture. I don't know exactly what causes them, but they were really beautiful.

Oban
In the harbour of Oban, there is a large group of swans. If you want to see the swans live in action, go visit Obans webcam. You can see them quite often there! I took some pictures of Oban by night. In the second one you can see the McCaig's Tower. It isn't a real tower, it's more like a colosseum.

White Corries (Glencoe)

I spent some time near Buachaille Etive Mor, it is supposed to be the most photographed mountain in Scotland, so I guess I just had to prove that ;) It was beautiful there, too bad it was an overcast day. Every now and then I got frightened by a jet-fighter flying over at very low height, and passing so close to the mountains (on its side) that I was waiting for a crash!

Ballachulish
I didn't spend much time in Ballachulish, just 2 hours while changing busses. There is a small peninsula from where you have beautiful views. We could see Eilean Munde, an island in the lake (Loch Leven) with the ruin of a church and a graveyard on it. On the photo you can see the Pap of Glencoe on the right.

Bridge of Orchy
This place consists of a bridge (surprising!), a hotel and some houses. There is a beautiful lake nearby, Loch Tulla. It was frozen, you could even walk on some parts. Around the lake you can find remnants of the forest that once covered all of Scotland - it's called Caledonion Pines and they are so pretty!

Stirling
I only spent one night in Sterling, and didn't see much of the city. I did take this photo of Stirling by night, with the Wallace Monument in the distance. This tower is built to honour William Wallace, well known to all Braveheart fans ;)
